Thing # 23 Summarize Your Thoughts about This Program

This has been a long and sometimes frustrating journey as I am sure you can tell from my blogs. There certainly were times (a lot of them) when I just didn't get it but there were other times like with the Wikis that I will use. I have found that I really don't like to blog and am not that interested in reading other people's blogs. I am more of a visual learner with hands on learning. But I needed to complete this class and I'm sure I will use some of the things I sort of learned.

Thing # 22 Nings

I looked at Teacher Librarian, Texas School Librarian Nings and Ning for Teachers. I think librarians are awesome and I could see where they would use and enjoy these kind of sites.

Thing # 21 Podcasts and Audio Books

I have looked at the information on podcasts and audio books. They really don't interest me at this time...I went on the Audacity website and it said I needed to download some things in order to use it and quite honestly I am not able to download anything else on my computer...it is maxed out. While looking around the site I could see how some people could find it very useful.
Photostory looks like it could be a lot of fun...

Thing # 20 YouTube, TeacherTube and Zamzar

I have watched several videos but was not able to get one embedded in my blog...one was "Children see, children do" form TeacherTube. Many times we wonder why children act a certain way until we see the parents. This was what the video was about. Then on YouTube I looked at Black Lab hunting dogs since the season is almost here. Amazing animals!

Thing # 19 Web 2.0 Awards List

I can see why these sights made the awards list. I looked under questions and advice (Minti) and if you are a new parent this would be awesome to have access to.
Under Health I found Revolution Health easier to use than Web MD...which is information I could use in my job.

Thing #18 Online Productivity Tools

I could not get Open Office to download and install, having problems with my computer. I was able to go in and look at Google Docs and see how it would be useful if you were working on a document and perhaps needed information from other people. They would be able to input on the same document from where they were.

Thing # 17 Rollyo

I watched Bruce Goodner's video but I was not able to follow very well...he went kinda fast..like he was talking to someone that knew what he was talking about...I did sign up on Rollyo and did create my own searchroll.

Thing # 16 Wikis

We have just finished our 8th Annual Ladies Weekend and I wish I had known how the Wiki worked beforehand. It would have saved a lot of telephone calls....it will definitely be used next year.

Thing # 15 Web 2.0, Library 2.0 and the Future of Libraries

To a temporary place in time...in this perspective it describes the library as I see it. On the way to the library experience of the future....Anytime I would need to find something out I would go to our librarian and she would usually know the answer or would certainly know where to find it. They embrace technology and all it can do and can't seem to wait for the next great thing to come along. I have very high regard for our librarians!

Thing # 14 Technorati and How Tags Work

I found School Library Learning 2.0 in Technorati's blog posts but could not find where to search the tags and in the blog directory. I really like de.licio.us better.

Thing # 13 Tagging and Discover Del.icio.us

This could be such a helpful tool for anyone and everyone. I work in several of the school clinics and I could see where this could be very time saving. We are usually coping with the same issues in the schools and to be able to go to one website to access what I have found and also what others have found would be wonderful.

Thing # 12 Creating Community Through Commenting

First of all to be a successful blogger you need to like to blog. You need to feel what you have to say is important and that someone would be interested to read it. You need to be as honest (without being cruel) as you can.
Google Blog search is easy to use and I did post to a couple of blogs.

LibraryThing # 11 Catalog your books online

This was relatively easy, would be a great tool for people in book clubs that live in different cities, states.

Thing # 10 Online Image Generator

Okay so here it is...It is very simple when you just take the time to think!

You can find this at
http://www.comicstripgenerator.com/

Thing # 9 Useful Library-Related Blogs and News Feeds

I didn't like this activity at all. It seemed like the more I read the more confused I became. Most of what I found was of no interest to me and therefore was of no use to me.

Thing # 8 RSS Feeds and Readers

I set up my Google reader. I really had not noticed the RSS sign on the articles that I had read on the internet until now. I guess it is an okay tool if you have time to sit at the computer and read..I really don't have time to do much of it.
Being in the clinic at several schools I could use it for health alerts.
Libraries could use RSS for research projects.

Thing # 7 Cool Google Tools

I really like iGoogle. To be able to have the links you want on one page is great.
I also set up an iAlert for weather for the Texas Gulf coast. My son has recently started working on a fishing yacht that is primarily in the gulf so needless to say I keep an eye on the weather.
I could see how students could use both of these tools for several subjects. If they are doing a currnet events project to have alerts sent to them for updated information would be helpful.

Thing # 6

I really liked the MAPPR. Not being in a classroom or library I would not be able to use this for the students but I would like to create one that my grandkids could post their vacation pictures on.

Thing # 5 Flickr

This has been fun. I can see how it can be very useful for really just about anyone. I have family all over the United States that I will be posting pictures for. My nephew sends me pictures of their kiddos and it is great to get them.

avatarsThing #3

I am here to complete thing #3. I have set up my blog but have no idea of what an avatar is much less how to create one. I am going to find out as soon as I finish this. I do now know what an avatar is and I did create one but really could not figure out how to export it to my page...will try again later....wish my 7 year old grandson was here.

goals Thing #2

For thing #2, I hope by the time I finish this class I will be able to use the internet with as much ease as my 7 year old grandson does. Kids are amazing!
